BRUCE & MIKE PLAY FRIDAY NIGHT HOOT AT SEADOG JAN 27
Since playing with the popular Shelburne band, The Poorboys, in the late 1980s, singers and guitarists Bruce Reid and Mike Elliott have done hundreds of gigs together, mostly featuring their own great blend of rock and roll, with some strong folk influences thrown in. When it started, they just wanted to get out of the garage and have some laughs. More than twenty years later, they’re still having fun and they aim to prove it on Friday, January 27 at the Sea Dog at 8:00pm for the last Hootenany of the month.
Bruce Reid has been playing guitar and singing since his early teens when his sister handed down her Harmony amp and Beltone guitar. He has always sung and his songwriting emerged in his mid-teens. Bruce doesn’t claim any direct influences, but admits that growing up with seventies’ performers like Kiss, BTO, Sweet, April Wine, and Streetheart have helped him construct his own take on rock and roll. A huge car enthusiast, Bruce is rebuilding the ’35 Chevy hot rod featured in the photo on this page.
Mike Elliott first picked up a guitar in elementary school and hasn’t put it down since. By high school he was one of the local guitar players to watch, after playing close attention hour-after-hour to Duane Allman, Mark Farner, Jeff Healy and Stevie-Ray Vaughn. This said, Mike is always striving to express his own voice on his axe of the moment, often an old Harmony. Mike’s love for music was also the impetus for opening Shelburne’s only music store, which has since gone the way of most passions.
