Navy greatest concern for Canada's top soldier

Gen. Walter Natynczyk told a national convention of veterans in Halifax Tuesday that the navy is his greatest concern when it comes to modernizing the military, but that the defence spending review underway in Canada should not affect national shipbuilding contracts.

The country’s supply ships and destroyers are more than 40 years old, and are in need of replacing. Arctic offshore patrol ships are the first vessels scheduled to be built under the new contracts. He says they are a key part of Canada's maritime security.
