Arts: Time to vote in Shelburne County

Oct 26 deadline looms

It’s time. From October 23 to 26, voting is open to support Shelburne County’s own pitch to produce a CBC sitcom called “Scratch Tracks.”

The creators are looking to rally as much support as possible over this 4-day period to advance in the CBC Comedy Coup competition. To do so, supporters go to the Comedy Coup website, register as a fan and click on the link that gets sent to their email address.

Once registered, fans can earn up to 20 votes to cast for Scratch Tracks. The creators are encouraging local fans to follow, share, favour and rate their project. All of this activity is considered when judges choose which projects make the next cut.

Scratch Tracks is set in a small town recording studio much like HarbourTone Productions in Shelburne. Local writer Darcy Rhyno is the creator and writer for the concept. Studio owner and musician Alex Buchanan is the audio and video editor. Rob Stork, an Emmy Award winning writer and producer is the co-writer and director.

Nearly 300 projects were entered in the competition. Of those, 110 remain, and Scratch Tracks hopes to make the next cut to 50.

The winner receives $500,000 to shoot their pilot episode to be aired on CBC in fall 2015. As many as 15 will be optioned for development.
