Art Gallery of Nova Scotia - Yarmouth
Community Room
June 3 to August 18, 2012
On Sunday, June 3rd from 1-4 PM, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will
feature an Open House and Reception to introduce the exhibition
"Explorations in Photography", at the Gallery's Western Branch in
Yarmouth. There is no admission charge and all are welcome. The exhibit
features the work of photographers from our region and will run until
August 18th.

"EXPLORATIONS IN PHOTOGRAPHY"
The Western Branch of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Yarmouth will be
hosting a photography exhibit from June 3rd through August 18th, 2012.
Twenty-two members of the Yarmouth Photography Club, from several parts
of the region, will be showcasing their work in accordance with the
theme. These artists have each pushed their own limits in some way.
Explorations outside their normal boundaries might entail a departure
from the usual subject preferences; an experiment with various
reproduction and mounting techniques as opposed to the standard, framed
print; a shift from colour photography to Black and White or vice versa;
or a change from realism to a more surrealistic perspective. Some
photographers might be using light or shadow in unfamiliar ways, working
with textural elements, or moving into abstract art. The variety of
exploratory techniques will be as wide-ranging as the number of
exhibitors who are involved.

Yarmouth Photography Club began as a six-member group in 2007 and has
greatly expanded since then. Today, its permanent home is at the YACRO
centre on Thurston Street, where the club meets on the third Wednesday
of each month at 7 PM. Currently, there are more than sixty members who
participate in the club's offerings and events, from workshops to photo
tours to seminars and discussion groups. The photographers include both
professionals and amateurs at every level from beginner to advanced.
Many different camera brands and models are also represented. Several
members have further enhanced their skills through workshops with
instructors such as Gary Friedman and Freeman Patterson, as they strive
to increase their knowledge and improve their capabilities. The results
of everyone’s ongoing efforts will be evident in this latest venue. The
club has mounted other exhibits since its inception but this is arguably
its most ambitious to date.

Members will also be offering various workshop programmes and seminars
during the course of the show. When the dates are finalized for these
events, further details will be available from AGNS or provided at the
exhibit itself. An Open House and Reception will be held on Sunday, June
3rd from 1-4 PM at the AGNS. There is no admission charge. The public is
also welcome to enjoy the display at any time during its run.
