Roseway ER shuttered Monday due to lack of doctors

This is the ninth such closure of the Roseway ER in just over two weeks.

Roseway Emergency Department Schedule, Jan. 11-12

The emergency department at Roseway Hospital, Shelburne, will be closed:

Monday, January 11, closed at 8 a.m., and reopening Tuesday, January 12 at 8 a.m.

This is due to physician availability. Health Authority apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

This is the ninth such closure of the Roseway ER in just over two weeks.

Recently, MLA Sterling Belliveau accused the Liberal government of paying "lip service" to the serious issues at Rosway.

He made the comments after a recent string of eight ER closures at Roseway between December 18th and January 3rd. In the past year closures at the only emergency room between Liverpool and Yarmouth have increased by over 500%..

“Given the location of the Roseway Emergency Room it is crucial it remain open, Beliveau told SCT via email. "When it is closed, the next closest Emergency Room is at least an hour away by car. That’s just too far for someone who is dealing with a health crisis.”

Local Facebook pages describing the closures show the frustration felt by local residents about the many closures. Some of the comments include:

  • I thought this was all supposed to be taken care of when the minister of health was down in October
  • What happened to all the promises?
  • It was only a few months ago that, with much fanfare, the minister stood outside Roseway Hospital and said the problem was being fixed with ER staff being brought in. So much for that!
  • [Belliveau] is preaching to the choir!
  • Should be challenging Mr Glavine to make good on the promises he made us in October.
