Adopt-A-Book Campaign 2018

Through June 30

The Western Counties Regional Library’s Adopt-A-book campaign is the single-most important fundraising campaign for your public library. The campaign puts new books on the library shelves and runs until Saturday, June 30. People can donate online (westerncounties.ca) or during a visit to their local branch library.

Summer Reading Club

Friday, June 22 to Friday, Aug. 24

Feed Your Passions during this fun summer reading club where children, teens and adults get a chance to read some great books, win some great prizes and participate in some imagination-related, exciting activities and programs. Register for the Summer Reading Club beginning on Friday, June 22 to participate in the reading club and to be eligible to win prizes and reading rewards.

Story Time Buddies: Lobster Fest

Thursday, June 7, 10:30 a.m.

Our preschool story time is featuring a special program in celebration of this year’s Lobster Fest! Children five and under play and sing their way to literacy with the residents of Bay Side Home. Activities are suited for preschool children and easily adapted for caregivers to join in with toddlers and babies, making this group fun for anyone not yet attending school.

 

Happy Bookers Book Club

Tuesday, June 12, 1:30 p.m.

On the second Tuesday of the month enjoy lively book discussions with friends! Today the group will discuss Everything Here Is Beautiful by Mira T. Lee. The club will share a new book every month. Coffee and tea are served. New members are always welcome.

It’s the first day of the 2018 Summer Reading Club! Sign up today and receive a free children’s book and play bean bag curling.

Scrabble Club

Tuesdays, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Join us for a game or two of Scrabble and enjoy a fun afternoon. This program is for adults.

 

Toddle and Tumble

Wednesday, June 6, 13 and 20, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Fun stories, games, and snacks for children from birth to preschool. This program is presented in partnership with the King Street Family Resource Centre.

 

Write On!

Wednesdays, June 6 and 20, 7 p.m.

Writers of all genres are encouraged to meet and share their work at Write On! This program is for adults and teens.

 

Lobster Loop Walk

Thursday, June 7, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Starting a the library, 35 North St., participants will walk along the Lobster Loop Walk around the beautiful seaside Town of Lockeport, ending back at the library for a delicious lobster sandwich. This program is in cooperation with Lockeport Recreation. Participant are asked to register by June 5 by contacting the library.

 

Write On: Author Reading by Kathleen K. Tudor

Wednesday, June 13, 7 p.m.

Author Kathleen K. Tudor will read from her latest book The Forties Dress, a murder mystery with an unusual turn. This program is for all ages.

 

Summer Reading Club Launch

Friday, June 22 during open hours

Children aged 5 to 12 who sign up for the Summer reading Club today will receive a free book and a yummy cupcake. Start reading today!

 

Lockeport Library Book Club

Monday, June 25, 7 p.m.

All are welcome to join us in discussing the book Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly.

 

Canada Multi-Cultural Day in Lockeport

Wednesday, June 27, 6 to 8 p.m.

All ages can celebrate Acadian culture in Nova Scotia with storytelling, displays of crafts, Acadian artifacts, and a yummy taste of Acadian favourites – rappie pie, bread and molasses and a beautiful poutine a trou! This program is in cooperation with the Multi-Cultural Day Committee of the Town of Lockeport.

Learn to love reading through songs, puppets and having fun with friends. This program is for children under five and their caregivers.

 

Friends of the Library Yard Sale

Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rain or shine, Friends of the Shelburne Library will hold its annual yard sale. Donations will be gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the Shelburne library during open hours ahead of time. Please note that the Friends cannot accept donations of clothing.

 

Brown Baggers Books and Banter Group

Tuesday, June 12, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Participate in the Brown Baggers Books and Banter Group and enjoy discussing books throughout the year while socializing at the library. The book up for discussion this month is When in French by Lauren Collins. The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month, and new members are welcome.

 

LEGO Club

Saturday, June 30, 10:30 a.m.

All ages can join the fun and take part in creating and building with LEGO. Bring a friend.
