Shelburne Film Expo

Friday, September 11, 2015 to Sunday, September 13, 2015

August 1 entry deadline
The Shelburne Film Expo has announced its official Call For Entries for this year's “Get Your Shorts On” Competition.   “It's set up as a competition, but it's really a way to showcase Nova Scotia's many talented filmmakers and get their work presented on the big screen,” said Rob Stork, co-founder of the project. “There's a lot of talent in the Province and we're proud to offer a way to showcase it,” added his Expo partner, Marta Stork.

The competition is open to all Nova Scotians, 14 years and up.  Entering a short film is free of charge and filmmakers are encouraged to visit the Submissions page at www.shelburnefilmexpo.com for specifics.  The deadline for entry is August 1, 2015.

The 2015 “Get Your Shorts On” Finalists will be screened on Friday, September 11h at Shelburne Regional High School.  In addition to prizes and bragging rights for all finalists, the winner is screened again on Saturday, September 12th at Shelburne's Osprey Arts Centre alongside a collection of award-winning short films from around the world.

This year's competition follows 2014's debut event, also at SRHS, which included twelve finalists from around the province playing to a large and enthusiastic crowd.  A documentary, “Birchtown: The Next Verse,” won the newly-minted “Shelbie” award and the grand prize that included screening again to a sell out crowd at the Osprey.

“Last year was just the start,” says Rob Stork.  “This year, we're anticipating many more submissions and hope to have additional screenings featuring finalists competing in different categories, with the best of the best then vying for the Best In Show Shelbie.”

The Shelburne Film Expo (SFE) is a weekend long festival that brings world class independent short films together with the work of filmmakers from around Nova Scotia and presents them all on the big screen  over 3 days and 2 nights.  The 2015 edition of the Shelburne Film Expo will begin on Friday, September 11 and conclude with matinee screenings on Sunday, September 13.
